I menhir di Cuili Piras

An important sign of megalithism in Muravera, a stone's throw from the tourist resort of Costarei.
In Sardinia they are called Perdas fittas, but the menhirs are real large cylindrical stones, they are driven into the ground for a meter and more, sometimes with anthropomotic or zoomorphic figures carved to form alignments or circles.

They are very famous in England, where they often form circles also called cromlechs.

The best known circle or group of stones in the world is certainly Stonehenge and everyone imagines druids performing religious rituals with their faithful in sacrificial stones in the middle of the forest.

In Muravera there are 16 archaeological sites with Menhirs, Cuili Piras is perhaps the most interesting because it is made up of 53 perdas fittas driven into the ground to form a probable circular astronomical calendar.

In the municipal archaeological excavations of 1983 many granite slabs were found, perhaps sacrificial and ceramics of the Mesolithic-Neolithic, ma l’;the most curious aspect is certainly the position of the menhirs, che opportunamente studiati all’;era, misero in evidenza che i Sardi tremila anni prima di Cristo osservavano il sorgere Iliaco degli astri e la posizione del sole e della luna per determinare il ciclo delle stagioni e così migliorare l’;agriculture. Strange, but true, Sardinians did not write, ma leggevano gli astriNel vicino Monte su Crobu è presente un Nuraghe fortezza con un bellissimo blocco di granito che forma l’;architrave dell’;ingresso e a fianco una domus de Janas con l’;reduced access, but visitable.

The central tower consists of a large circular building, il Nuraghe Asoru è costituito da un mastio di circa 10 metri d’;height to which it was added, a trefoil bastion that enclosed a small courtyard. Consisting of blocks of quadrangular granite. The structure is well signposted and easily reachable.
